349. Xanthium sibiricum (Cochlebur fruit, Can Er Zi) Chinese Herb – allergic rhinitis, nasosinusitis, opens the aperture of the nose; to dispel wind and dampness (anti-rheumatic), to relieve pain and itchiness; nose running, chronic rhinitis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic lumbago, prorates of the skin, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, analgesic. Pungent, bitter, warm, slightly toxic. LU. see Catarrh

350. Xanthoxylum americanum (Prickly Ash bark) – circulatory stimulant, lymphatic stimulant, diaphoretic, anti-rheumatic in legs, carminative, sialagogue, tonic, alterative; chronic skin disease, chronic rheumatism, poor circulation, intermittent claudication, Raynaud’s syndrome, chilblains, cramp, varicose veins, varicose ulcers. Dry mouth. Ext.: rheumatism, fibrositis as liniment. Berries: therapeutically more active in circulatory disorders. Dose: 1:5 45% 2-5ml.

351. Yucca schidigera and spp. (Yucca leaves) – this desert plant appears to be of value in arthritis treatment. It is thought that the herb’s benefit in joint disorders may stem from a reduction in bacterial toxins that would otherwise hinder cartilage repair. The Hopi Indians prized this herb as a natural cleanser (lots of saponins), relating to cure baldness. Weiner. Sapoginin – similar to Wild Yam hormones, natural source of progesterone; for bleeding of womb and menstrual disorders. Its asteroidal saponins act as an anticoagulant to resolve clumping of blood cells. Action: cardiac stimulant, anti-inflammatory (arthritis), diuretic, cholagogue (saponins), blood purifier. Acts as a preventative against cancer and tumours (anti-cancer). Uses: hormonal imbalance, varicose veins, acne, ulcers in mouth and skin, cleanses gall bladder, cataract.

352. Zea mays (Corn Silk, Yu Mi Xu) Chinese Herb – diuretic, anti-lithic, demulcent, tonic; urinary irritation, renal problems in children, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis; nocturnal enuresis, urinary incontinence, kidney stones, urinary system inflammation, swellings; lowers blood sugar; RA (uric acid excretion); lowers blood pressure HBP; dissolves gall stones; sweet, neutral; BL. 353. Zingiber officinalis (Dry Ginger, Gan Jiang) Chinese Herb – stimulant, stomachic, anti-emetic, carminative, flatulent dyspepsia, rubefacient, diaphoretic; circulatory stimulant, stimulant to yang, dissolves phlegm, dyspepsia, colic, nausea, vomiting cold hands and feet, weak pulse, cough with profuse sputum. Travel sickness. Ext. sprains; pungent, warm; HE, LU, SP, ST, KI. Zingiber officinalis (Ginger root (fresh), Sheng Jiang) – diaphoretic (for Wind and Cold), anti-emetic, expectorant; common cold with cough and thin, white phlegm; vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal fullness; pungent, warm. LU SP ST.

354. Ziziphus jujuba (Jujube fruit, Da Zao) Chinese Herb – malaise, loss of appetite, diarrhoea, anaemia, palpitation, irritability, sedative; sweet, warm. SP ST.

355. Ziziphus jujuba (Wild Jujube seed, Suan Zao Ren) Chinese Herb – sedative, tranquillizer, anhidrotic; insomnia, fidget, cardiotonic, palpitation, night sweat, spontaneous perspiration (menopause); sweet, sour, neutral. LIV HE.
